ADHD and Daily Challenges
Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is often misunderstood as simply being ‘distracted’ or ‘energetic.’ In reality, ADHD is a neurodevelopmental condition that impacts focus, organization, impulse control, and sometimes emotional regulation. It can affect children, teens, and adults, showing up differently across life stages. While ADHD brings challenges, it can also come with strengths—like creativity, high energy, and out-of-the-box thinking.
What Is ADHD?
ADHD is a condition that affects the brain’s ability to regulate attention, impulses, and activity levels. It is not caused by laziness or a lack of discipline, but is influenced by genetics, brain chemistry, and environment.

The three main presentations include:
-
Inattentive type — difficulty sustaining focus, forgetfulness, disorganization.
-
Hyperactive-impulsive type — restlessness, fidgeting, acting without thinking.
-
Combined type — a mix of inattentive and hyperactive-impulsive symptoms.

How Does ADHD Show Up
Why It Matters
Untreated ADHD can affect school, work, relationships, and self-confidence. Many individuals with ADHD also experience anxiety, depression, or difficulties with emotional regulation. At the same time, recognizing ADHD can unlock understanding and new ways of approaching challenges with compassion and effective strategies.
